Kate Vinokurov is in her first year of the MES Program at York, and is concurrently pursuing a diploma in Environmental/ Sustainability Education. Her research is focused on urban food security, with a particular emphasis on healthy & sustainable communities. Kate’s passion in agriculture and food issues has led her to pursue various learning opportunities, both locally and abroad. Most recently, Kate has participated in the Permaculture Internship Program in Cuba, working with the country’s leading environmental organization, The Antonio Núñez Jiménez Foundation for Nature and Humanity (FANJ). Here she has gained extensive knowledge and experience in natural system design and implementation. In 2010, she has participated in the FarmStart Incubator Program and has worked for the Regional Municipality of York as an educator. In 2008, Kate was chosen to participate in a unique cross-cultural experience with the Explore French immersion program in Jonquière, Québec
